Writing Workshops

Writing About Family
Our families are our richest lode of raw material for writing.  Using photographs, genograms, family sayings and stories, and exercises designed to probe them, we'll spend the day writing about the people we came from, and how their presences and absences shaped us.
Writing the Body's Voice
In sickness and in health, at every moment of our lives, our bodies speak to us about our innermost selves and the world around us.  In a society that silences our bodies in a myriad of ways, we often struggle to hear that voice, let alone express it.  Through a series of individual and interactive exercises we'll make space for the voices of our bodies, just as they are, to speak.
Writing Passionate Political Poetry & Prose
Good political poetry is personal, passionate and specific.  In this workshop we'll explore what exactly moves you--to rage, to joy, to sorrow--about the political realities of our world, and the words that are uniquely yours to say.  We'll work with current news stories that move us, and long-held values and concerns, learning how to avoid generalizations and slogans, and write with the power and beauty that most effectively moves others.
Bonework: Exploring Family Identity
Starting from key family stories, the ones we tell over and over, we probe, question and reinterpret our place in the social web of relationships.  This powerful two hour workshop always yields a rich crop of new insights in an amazingly short amount of time.
